Fluticasone is a steroid. It prevents it from logging off of systems that cause inflammation. Always rinse your mouth after using the steroid inhaler or disc.
Inhaler equipment is measured differently in the United States. In the United States, inhalers are named according to the amount of medication delivered through the actuator. In Europe and Israel, inhalers are measured by the amount of medication delivered through the valve.

What is Flixotide?
Flixotide is an anti-inflammatory drug that belongs to the group of medicines called glucocorticoids. The active substance in Flixotide is fluticasone propionate. It reduces inflammation symptoms such as swelling and irritation in the lungs.
Who is Flixotide for?
The indications for Flixotide are:
Diskus and Inhaler:
- Prophylactic treatment of bronchial asthma.
- Symptomatic treatment of COPD with an FEV1 < 60%. As an addition to a long-acting β2-agonist for the symptomatic treatment of patients with COPD (FEV1 < 60%) of the predicted normal value (pre-bronchodilator) and a history of repeated exacerbations with significant symptoms.
Nebules:
- Treatment of patients, adults and children older than 16 years, with severe asthma who need to be treated with high doses of steroids by inhalation or oral corticosteroids.
Many patients who are dependent on systemic steroids for adequate symptom control may be able to reduce the need for oral corticosteroids and possibly stop. - Treatment of children aged 4-16 years with acute, mild to moderate exacerbations of asthma (PEFR > 50% predicted). If the asthma is under control, follow-up treatment can be more easily achieved with a dose aerosol or a powder inhalation. The effect of the treatment should be evaluated based on lung function and symptoms.
Use Flixotide
Flixotide is available in:
- Diskus: 100µg, 250µg and 500 µg
- Inhaler: 50 µg, 125µg and 250µg
- Nebules:
500: 0.5 mg fluticasone propionate per 2 ml nebulizer fluid
2000: 2.0 mg fluticasone propionate per 2 ml nebulizer fluid
Patients should be informed about the prophylactic nature of the therapy with fluticasone propionate by inhalation and that it should be used regularly, even if there are no complaints.
Asthma:
The effect of Flixotide Diskus & Flixotide Inhaler is noticeable within 4 to 7 days after the start of treatment. However, it may take several weeks before this effect is maximum. In patients who have not previously been treated with inhaled corticosteroids, it has been found that Flixotide can have a therapeutic effect within 24 hours. Patients should be made clear that if they notice that the effect of short-acting bronchodilators decreases or that they need more doses than usual, they should immediately contact the treating doctor.
COPD:
The medicine should be used daily for an optimal effect. It may take 3 to 6 months to achieve an optimal effect. If there is no improvement after 3 to 6 months, the patient should be medically evaluated.
