What is the difference between Janumet and Janumet XR?
Janumet is a combination of two drugs - sitagliptin and metformin. It is prescribed to lower blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes, along with a diet and exercise program.
Janumet and Janumet XR may cause kidney problems as a side effect. Due to these risks, a doctor may not prescribe Janumet or Janumet XR if there are kidney problems.
Janumet XR should be taken along with the evening meal. This reduces the chance of an upset stomach. Janumet is usually taken twice each day, morning and night.
Treatment of diabetes should not be stopped except under the direction of a doctor. There can be serious side effects. Over time, hyperglycemia can lead to diabetes complications, such as retinopathy and blindness.
