Nexplanon (generic name: etonogestrel) is a contraceptive implant that prevents ovulation and pregnancy. The contraceptive is implanted by a healthcare provider under the skin on the upper arm.
Nexplanon is only a contraceptive preventing pregnancy. It does not provide any protection against sexually transmitted diseases or AIDS.
Dosage
Each implant acts to prevent pregnancy for up to 3 years. A doctor must remove it and replace it if continued contraceptive protection is desired.
